All You Need to Know to Participate in the Destin Fishing Rodeo Annual October 1 – 31st Saltwater Tournament
The Destin Fishing Rodeo, a cherished tradition since 1948.
Held annually from October 1st to 31st, the Rodeo has evolved into one of the latest saltwater fishing tournaments in the Gulf of America. Destin Fishing Rodeo awards are sponsored in part by our area businesses. Other awards are paid for by the Rodeo through entry fees and merchandise sales. Anglers of all ages and skill levels can participate.
Daily weigh-ins, open to the public, occur from 10 am to 7 pm behind AJ’s Seafood & Oyster Bar on the Destin Harbor, offering a lively atmosphere for spectators to witness impressive catches.
The Rodeo features several categories and divisions, such as Ladies, Seniors, and Juniors, with prizes for various species, including grouper, amberjack, tuna, and more. This month-long celebration showcases Destin’s rich fishing heritage, fosters community spirit and tourism, solidifying its status as a cornerstone event on the Emerald Coast.

Awards & Rules
Over 30,000 anglers compete in October for over $100,000 in cash and prizes.
- Open Every Day – October 1st through October 31st.
- The Rodeo is FREE to anglers fishing aboard a registered boat in the Rodeo.
- Weigh-ins every day on the docks at AJ’s Seafood & Oyster Bar from 10 am until 7 pm.
- Open to Private and Charter Boats.
- Daily, weekly, and overall prizes.
- Junior, Teen, Ladies, and Senior Divisions.
Daily Weigh-Ins
The tournament leaderboard is located right next to the weigh-in dock, showcasing all categories with daily updates. Spectators can also enjoy the action from a small grandstand positioned just below the leaderboard.

- Weigh-ins are free and open to the public.

Virtually every gamefish is recognized with awards during the Rodeo. Whether you’re trolling inshore for King Mackerel, offshore for Marlin and Sailfish, or fishing the deep bottoms for Red Snapper and Grouper, you’ll be in the running for prizes.

Book Early
Booking early is essential—we can’t stress it enough.
For the best selection of charter options, we recommend making your reservations no later than August. Spring and early summer are ideal times to book, as trips and accommodations fill up quickly.

10% deposit with a credit card is required for reservations.
Trip Cancellation Policy
Standard Trip
All Trips Except Peak Season 24 – 48 Hour Trips
- 20 Days or Less Notice:
A $200 cancellation fee will be charged for cancellations made within 20 days of the scheduled trip. - 48 Hours or Less Notice:
Cancellations made within 48 hours of departure, or failure to appear, will result in the full booking amount being charged to the credit card on file.
Peak Season 24 – 48 Hour Trips
May 1 – October 31
- Please note that peak season overnight trips are non-refundable.
- Once your trip is booked, the full booking amount will be charged to your card on file.
Weather Cancellation Policy
What Happens in the Event of Bad Weather
Weather-related decisions are typically made the day before or on the day of your charter. If unsafe weather conditions prevent your trip from taking place, we will make every effort to reschedule your charter for another available date. If weather conditions make it unsafe to go out and we are unable to get you on the water, you will not be charged. All weather-related decisions are made at the discretion of Captain Matthew, who has the final authority on whether conditions are safe for your trip.
Crew Tips
20 – 25% tip to our mate is customary and appreciated.
What To Bring
Food and drinks will the responsibility of the guests chartering the boat.
